Every 10 seconds, the genitalia of a girl child are mutilated, with over 200 million victims worldwide, of whom 44,000 die annually. The International Solidarity Foundation fights against genital mutilation in East Africa, but in 2023, funding was in danger of running out, and the issue threatened to disappear from public discussion. A straightforward, attention-grabbing, and solution-oriented approach was needed. We demanded an end to mutilation globally, so we decided to appeal directly to decision-makers and thereby to donors. On October 11th, the International Day of the Girl, the Solidarity Foundation submitted an application to Finland's UNESCO representatives, demanding the inclusion of female genitalia in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
